Its Your Life
Recent market data projects over 2,405,000 students will be
enrolled in fully online programs by the end of 2009. Over 50% of full-time students also work full-time, this makes it more critical
than ever for schools to make education accessible online for their students. With
working adults and employers embracing online education, the growth forecast
looks strong.
Its
Your Time
Like most adults, time is
our most important
commodity, and usually our
most limited resource. This
form of advanced education
primarily exists for those
who, for personal, economic,
family, or other reasons
cannot afford, or simply do
not have the time, to attend
a traditional "campus based"
college program. The goal of
independent study is to
eliminate barriers such as
distance, scheduling
conflicts, or family
responsibilities which
prevent most people from
earning a degree.
Independent study gives
adults credit for what
they've learned outside the
classroom; through work,
community service, reading,
and the like. It allows the
learner to demonstrate what
they know through
examination and to turn
their knowledge into credit
toward a college degree.
Its The Way
The most critical aspect of
independent study is student
have control over their
academics. In most
traditional nursing programs
there are
many time restrictions
placed on the learner;
things like required
classroom attendance,
project deadlines, lesson
plans, and scheduled exams.
The student is forced to
conform to the group.
Because of the nature of
independent study, there are
no time restrictions placed
on the learner. When
studying independently, it's
possible to complete all the
degree requirements in less
than one year. However, an
average client who is
motivated to earn their
degree can complete one
course every four weeks of
less.
